2:00 pm – 2:50 pmAlso, I am looking forward to buying this:
Making Good Comics in a New Era
With Alvin Buenaventura (Buenaventura Books), Mats Jonsson (Gallago), Tom Neely (2007 Ignatz Winner), Brett Warnock (Top Shelf), Julia Wertz (www.fartparty.org), Dylan Williams (Sparkplug Comics). Chaired by Heidi MacDonald (The Beat).
How are small comics publishers and self-published cartoonists responding to the current comics market? What are the main challenges and opportunities for independent publishers in today’s publishing climate? This roundtable is cosponsored by Sparkplug Comics.
Which you can read all about here.
Next, I wanted to draw your attention to the following items:
- Paul Pope posted the first two installments of Strange Adventures, his contribution to the upcoming Wednesday Comics.
- Farel Dalrymple put up part one of a new comic.
- Scott Campbell played around with musicians.
- Colleen Coover drew a Wolverine cover sketch for the Hero Initiative. Be sure to click on the picture on her site to see the back cover.
- Top Shelf 2.0 posted nine new Incredible Change-Bots pictures by Jeffrey Brown.
- Lucy Knisley fasted for a week and told everybody her new book Relish will be published by First Second.
I loved the Scott Campbell artwork. I want prints of about half of those.
ReplyDeleteDid you get the chance to meet Seth at Mocca? His new book, George Sprott (1894-1975), is absolutely incredible. I'll probably be posting a short review soon.
I didn't meet Seth, but that's because MOCCA hasn't happened yet - it is this coming weekend. :) But yeah, I really liked the part of George Sprott that was included in the 2008 Best American Comics anthology, so I will check it out, and I'll keep my eyes peeled for your review.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I just ordered the print of Scott Campbell's Adorable Garden (which is great). You should look for his comic short story "Igloo Head and Tree Head" in the first volume of the Flight anthology - it's hilarious.
